What makes a NoWakie different from other boats?
OUR PONTOONS AND HANDRAIL ARE PLASTIC!!
Handrail and Pontoon Material-
Our pontoons and handrail are made from HDPE (High Density Polyethylene).
It is a thermoplastic polymer derived from pertoleum. It is called Starboard or boat board in the marine industry and is very durable. It has UV (ultraviolet) additives added at time
of manufacturing to prevent breakdown in sunlight.
HDPE can withstand temperatures up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit (120 Celsius) and as low as -148 Fahrenheit (-100 Celsius). This makes it the ideal material mechanically for transporting hot and cold
substances as well as geothermal heat and pressurized liquids. Its melting point is at 266 Fahrenheit (130 Celsius). This is also useful in manufacturing as the material can be shaped and molded at
relatively low temperatures.
Pontoons
Our pontoons start off as flat sheets of 3/16 HDPE. We use a butt welder to turn each sheet into a tube that has a bulk head welded into each end of every 4 foot section.
With three pontoons there is a total of 16 individually sealled chambers.
